Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Hopper pitched two years for Union University. He had three cups of coffee with the St. Louis Cardinals and Washington Senators. He was a World War I veteran (BN). He was a retired mechanic for the Wilson Motor Company in Pontiac, MI. He died in a Veterans Administration Hospital at age 72 after a long illness.

Hopper never won a game in the majors but he had considerable success in the minors. In 1912 he went 12-7 for the New Haven Murlins, while in 1913 he was 21-8 for the New Haven team. In 1915 he was 18-3 for the Minneapolis Millers.

He was the first major leaguer with the last name Hopper. Two of the other three were pitchers who each appeared in two games in the majors.
