Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Herring pitched in the 1915 Federal League. Primarily a pitcher, he played a lot of outfield in the minors in 1920.
". . . Magee has also signed Bill Herring, the big right-handed twirler from Freeport . . . Herring was boosted highly to Manager McGraw, but the leader of the Giants figured that he did not have time to bother with youngsters, so let him out. Magee, on the other hand, is keen for youngsters, be they twirlers, infielders or outfielders. He shoved Herring in to pitch the ninth inning of the first game of yesterday's double-header and the kid brought forth cheers from the crowd by retiring the Whales in one, two, three order." - Sporting Life, July 3, 1915
