Biographical Information[edit]

Florida native Bill Henderson spent fourteen active years in professional baseball, from 1923 to 1936. Henderson spent fourteen days, (June 20 to July 4, 1930) of those fourteen seasons, in the major leagues with the New York Yankees. Bill appeared in three games, pitched eight innings and had a 4.50 ERA with no decisions. This was his only time in the big leagues.

Bill was a high classification minor league pitcher, spending 13 of his 14 seasons in AA ball (then the highest class next to the major leagues) predominately in the Pacific Coast League and the International League. However he managed only to have a 97-124 record in 424 games. His best effort came in 1932 when he went 17-12 with a 3.10 ERA in 276 innings for the San Francisco Seals of the PCL.

Henderson finished his pro pitching career in 1936 with the Augusta Tigers of the class B South Atlantic League. He had a 2-6 record and a 3.71 ERA and decided to call it a career at the age of 35.

Henderson served in the United States Military during World War I and was a Civil Service Worker after baseball. He died shortly after his retirement on October 6, 1966 while hospitalized in Pensacola, FL. He was 64 years of age.
