Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Gilbert pitched a couple of games for the Baltimore Orioles in 1892. The team featured Harry Stovey and Wilbert Robinson, but unlike later powerhouse Orioles teams, this one lost over 100 games.

It was long unclear who Gilbert was, and only fairly recently was he pinned down as Alfred Gideon Gilbert with the death date listed above. Source: SABR Biographical Research Committee May/June 2004.

Sporting Life of September 27, 1892 said he was an amateur from Havre de Grace, MD who had talent but was reluctant to pitch a second time after his first outing in the majors.
