Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Gayton was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 37th round of the 1981 amateur draft. He debuted in 1981 with the GCL White Sox and hit .239/~.284/.275 in 36 games. He fielded .996 in 26 games as the first baseman. He moved to the outfield with the 1982 Niagara Falls Sox and batted .243/~.339/.342 in 66 contests. It was his last year playing in the minors.

After his playing days, Gayton was a scout for the Chicago White Sox (1984-1985) and Oakland A's (1986-??). He was the Scouting Director for the San Diego Padres from 2001 to 2005.
