Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Bill Drescher spent eleven seasons in professional baseball from 1942 through 1954. He spent parts of three seasons, 1944, 1945 and 1946 in the major leagues with the New York Yankees. He appeared in in 57 games during his three short runs in the big leagues and hit for a .266 average.

Bill broke into baseball in 1942 with the Amsterdam Rugmakers, of the class C Canadian-American League, and appeared in 102 games, hitting at a .301 clip, in his only year in a league that wasn't class A or better. During his career, Bill played eight seasons of AAA ball, two of AA and in 1943 he had a split season of AA and A.

Bill had only two seasons above the .300 mark in his eleven-year run, his first in 1942 and probably his best hitting year came in 1948 with the Kansas City Blues of the American Association, when he hit .319 with a career-high seven home runs and 52 RBI.

Drescher wound up his minor league career in 1954 with the Syracuse Chiefs of the International League after appearing in 875 minor league contests with 2,492 at-bats and 679 base hits, that included 28 home runs and a .272 batting average. He also fielded the catcher's spot at a .987 percentage.

William Clayton Drescher died at his home in Haverstraw, NY on May 15, 1968 at 47 years of age.
