Biographical Information[edit]
Bill Butler was an amateur player in New Orleans when he was signed by the Pittsburgh Alleghenys before the 1884 season. He did not play for Pittsburgh, but was in 9 games with the Indianapolis Hoosiers later that year. He was married on March 22nd of that year to Anastasia O'Mealey, a couple of days before leaving town for Pittsburgh. He died in New Orleans in 1895 where he worked as a cotton handler and later as a bartender.
