Biographical Information[edit]
Bernie Smith has a place in Milwaukee Brewers history larger than his total of 59 games played might suggest. He was called up at the end of July in 1970 to a team that was struggling. It was a second-year expansion team that had been moved from Seattle to Milwaukee on the orders of a bankruptcy court just days before the start of the season. Milwaukeeans were still unacquainted with the Brewers and attendance was slim. Bernie Smith, a 29-year-old journeyman minor leaguer and major league rookie, played with a heart and hustle that almost immediately made him a fan favorite.
Smith managed the 1973 Danville Warriors.
Notable Achievements[edit]
- 1967 Player of the Year Eastern League Williamsport Mets
