Biographical Information[edit]

"The St. Louis farm system, not so dried up as some said, had grown a skinny, 20-year-old shortstop named Bernie Creger, for whom the Chicago Cubs would give a half-interest in Wrigley Field. Yet Creger had little chance to break into the Cardinals' crack lineup: to do that he would have to beat Marty ("Mr. Shortstop") Marion out of his job." - Time Magazine, spring training 1947

Bernie Creger was only 20 during his single season in the majors: 1947 with the St. Louis Cardinals. A shortstop, he backed up Marty Marion, hitting .188 in 15 games. He played for Omaha in 1949 and 1950 and was with Columbus in 1951. In all, he had nine seasons in the minors. Creger served with the United States Navy during World War II.
