Benedictine University at Springfield was formerly a two year college known as Springfield College in Illinois. In January 2003, SCI entered into a "partnership" with Benedictine University, which has led to a merger between the institutions. In October 2009, Benedictine-Springfield became a member of the NAIA and applied for membership in the American Midwest Conference. After the 2014-2015 school year the school dropped athletics.
