Biographical Information[edit]
Ben Young umpired 15 games in the American Association in 1886 and 5 games in 1887. He then umpired the next few years in various minor leagues. On September 1, 1890, while an umpire in the Pacific Northwest League, he was on a Northern Pacific train that struck a broken rail and derailed, injuring 16 passengers, and killing him and one other passenger.
