Biographical Information[edit]
Ben Steiner played 82 games over three years in the major leagues, but 78 of those games were in one year, 1945, as a second baseman with the Boston Red Sox. He didn't do badly at all, at age 23, hitting .257 on a team that hit .260. He hit a home run in his first major league game on April 17th. His 10 stolen bases were second on the team. His range factor was decent, but he made 14 errors. It should be noted that in 1945, he was playing against weak competition - many major-league ballplayers were serving their country during World War II. Steiner found it difficult to make a major-league roster after they returned home.
