Biographical Information[edit]

Belve Bean pitched in the majors during the first part of the 1930s and then was with the Minneapolis Millers from 1935-1940. Belve's best major league year was 1934, when he was managed by Walter Johnson. Bean was successful in his minor league career with at least 123 victories. He won 20 games in 1928 and 1932 and won at least 15 games during at least three other seasons. He was with the New Orleans Pelicans in 1929 and the Toledo Mud Hens in 1932.

Bean was not a bad hitter for a pitcher, with a .264 major league batting average and a .243 minor league batting average. On May 29, 1929, he not only beat the Memphis Chicks 11-2, but also went 5-for-5 with the bat. Pelican Briefs. After his playing days he was sheriff of Comanche County, TX.
