Beachville & Zorra Amateur Teams - 1838

On June 4, 1838, the first recorded baseball game took place in North American history. The Beachville Amateur Team and Zorra Amateur Team met in Beachville, ON in a game with five bases and a ball made of yarn and calf skin. Players involved were George Burdick, Almon Burch, Gordon Cook, Henry Cruttendon, William Dodge, Old Ned Dolson, William Ford, William Harrington, William Hutchinson, Adam Karn, Daniel Karn, Harry Karn, Peter Karn, Reuben Martin, Edward McNames, Nathaniel McNames, Neil McTaggart, James Piper, Henry Taylor, I. Van Alstine, Abel Williams and John Williams. The teams and game were later inducted as a unit into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 1988.
