The most recent professional baseball team from Bassett, VA, the Bassett Statesmen played part of one year (1950) in the Blue Ridge League. The club had begun the year as the Wytheville Statesmen but moved on July 27 due to a polio epidemic. In their time in Bassett, they drew 8,000 fans and their overall record was 39-74, 5th in the six-team league. Managed by Richard Hartnett, the unaffiliated team had no standout performances.
