Baseball Champions League
The Baseball Champions League is a tournament first held in 2023 that pits the champions of four professional leagues from the Americas: the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (the Mexican League), the American Association, the Cuban Serie Nacional and the Colombia Professional Baseball League. The tournament is modeled on the UEFA Champions League in football (soccer), and similar tournaments that have long existed in Europe and Asia. It differs from the Caribbean World Series as the participating teams do not solely represent winter leagues. The tournament came out of a desire by the American Association to increase its international imprint; it first established contact with the Mexican League to set up a postseason series, and the Mexicans in turn proposed to expand the concept further.
The original edition of the tournament was held in Mérida, Yucatán, in Mexico starting on September 28, 2023. For planning purposes, the tournament featured the champion teams from the previous season, and not the one that was completed just before the tournament's start, whole limiting the number of roster changes permitted.
