BJ Birdie
BJ Birdie served as the Toronto Blue Jays official mascot for 20 years, from 1979 to 1999, when he was replaced by Ace and Diamond. BJ was created and played by the same person, Kevin Shanahan, for his entire 20-year career as the Jays' mascot.
He was ejected from a game in 1993, after making gestures the umpire found offensive.
He is fondly remembered by fans, who have created websites in his honor. He was a "victim of market research and the much-dreaded change in direction" as per this article when he was replaced in 1999/early 2000 by Ace and Diamond.
He was featured in a comic strip in the Toronto Star in the 1980s, making fun of the team's highs and lows during the season.
