Biographical Information

Outfielder Austin Beck was selected 6th overall in the 2017 amateur draft, out of a high school in North Carolina, by the Oakland Athletics. While he was an outstanding hitter in high school, there was some question over how high he would go, given he had suffered a knee injury the previous summer and as a result missed the showcase circuit in which top high school prospects can prove themselves to scouts while using wooden bats. The A's were not deterred, however, focusing instead on his outstanding all-around skills. He was signed on June 20th and was given a signing bonus of $5.3 million.
