Biographical Information[edit]

Aubrey "Yo-Yo" Epps was in the majors for just one game, but it was a notable one. He got three hits in four tries, including a triple, for a major league lifetime line of .750/.750/1.250. In the field as a catcher, he played eight innings and was charged with two errors. Three runners stole bases off him.

Born in Memphis, TN, he played nine seasons in the minors, mostly in the South. Dino Chiozza is the only other big leaguer born the same year in Memphis, TN (Dino was in two major league games). Epps had a career minor league batting average of .290, with a peak home run total of 19 in the last year he played, 1941. In the minors, he was in roughly 400 games as a catcher and 300 as an outfielder.

Wikipedia (02-11-20) states that he had a critical health problem during the 1935-36 off-season, but had recovered by spring training of 1936 and was on the Pittsburgh Pirates' roster, although he did not play for them during the regular season.
