Biographical Information[edit]
Art Demery, called Artist Demery in some sources, was the father of Larry Demery and Art Demery. He played outfield and later pitched in the Negro Leagues then came to the minor leagues for three years. In 1953, Demery went 16-9 with a 3.78 ERA for the Bakersfield Indians. He struck out 167 in 212 IP and walked 99 while completing 16 of 26 starts. He tied five other pitchers, including Tony Freitas, for the California League lead in shutouts (3) and was third in strikeouts. In 1954, he was 10-9 with a 3.05 ERA for Bakersfield. He finished his career with the 1955 Visalia Cubs (1-5, 5.33).
