Biographical Information[edit]
Art Oliver played in the minor leagues in 1943 and from 1946 to 1949.
He began his career with a .320 average in 125 at-bats for the Bristol Twins his rookie season. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he returned to baseball but never posted such lofty averages again -- his next highest mark was .273 in 1946. Not a slugger early in his career (he had 14 total home runs his first four years), he hit 17 home runs for the Paducah Chiefs in 1949, his final campaign.
Overall, Oliver batted .263 with 31 home runs in 466 games over five seasons.
