Biographical Information[edit]
Art Merewether sandwiched his professional baseball career around attending top-flight colleges. He was at the Ivy League's Brown University from 1920 to 1922, and played one game at the major league level in July 1922, appearing three days after his 20th birthday with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Thereafter he attended MIT, serving as captain of the college's baseball team, and apparently graduated in 1925. He played minor league ball in 1926 for the Lewiston Twins of the New England League, hitting .281 in 75 games.
Outside of baseball, he became the chief meteorologist for United Airlines, was president of the American Meteorological Society and discovered a frozen crater lake in northern Canada which was named after him.
