Biographical Information[edit]
Art Jones pitched four years for Furman University, sixteen years in the minor leagues, and one inning of one game on April 23, 1932, for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He served his country during World War II (BN). For 35 years he was an attorney in Kershaw, South Carolina. He represented Kershaw County in the South Carolina House of Representatives for several terms and was mayor of Kershaw for over 20 years. He died at age 74 in the VA Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, and is buried at Kershaw City Cemetery in Kershaw. He was drafted into the Army in June 1942 (TSN) and discharged in June 1943 (TSN) and returned to Elmira of the Class A Eastern League and finished the 1943 season there. At the end of the season he went on the voluntary retired list to return to his law practice and did not play any more baseball (TSN).
