Biographical Information[edit]
Art Herring had two major league careers, a decade apart from each other. He broke into the majors in 1929 and pitched through 1934. Then, he was absent from the majors until 1944 except for seven games in 1939. From 1944 to 1947 he was back in the majors. In his final year in the majors, 1947, he was the oldest player in the National League.
For many years, Herring held the obscure record of "longest time between one double and the next". He hit his fourth in 1931; his fifth came 15 years later, in 1946... then in 2007, Jamie Moyer shattered this record with a 19 year break.
He was 19-14 with Sacramento in 1935. He went 16-6 with St. Paul in 1938.
