Biographical Information[edit]

Apostol Garcia played in the minor leagues from 1993 to 2000. He began as an infielder, but transitioned to pitching later on.

After a year in the Dominican Summer League, he moved stateside in 1994. Though he showed decent speed, swiping 18 bases in 1994, 10 in 1995 and 12 in 1996, his slash lines were underwhelming. He converted to pitching in 1997 and had immediate success, posting a 7-2 record and a 3.02 ERA in 33 games (5 starts) for the West Michigan Whitecaps. His success was short-lived, however, as he fell to 5-8, 5.43 in 34 games (16 starts) in 1998, surrendering 155 hits in 119 1/3 innings. On April 16, 1999, he was traded with fellow minor leaguer Rick Roberts and pitcher Robinson Checo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitchers Dave Mlicki and Mel Rojas. He went 7-5, 3.23 in 35 games (11 starts) his first year in their system, but slipped to 1-5, 6.13 in 22 games (8 starts) in 2000 to wrap up his career. His final season's WHIP was 1.877.

Overall, Garcia hit .202/.277/.259 with 2 home runs and 41 stolen bases in 603 stateside at-bats. On the mound, he went 20-20 with a 4.40 ERA in 124 games (40 starts). In 345 1/3 innings, he allowed 386 hits and 158 walks (1.575 WHIP), while striking out 197 batters.
