Biographical Information

Outfielder/first baseman Tony Washington played in the minor leagues from 1955 to 1964. He spent part or all of six seasons, including his final three, at Triple-A, however he never reached the major leagues.

He debuted with a .327/.365/.438 with 106 hits in 82 games for the Clinton Pirates, then he batted .313/.343/.540 with 21 home runs, 90 RBI, 20 steals and 94 runs scored in 121 games for the Grand Forks Chiefs in 1956. With the Beaumont Pirates in 1957, he batted .356/.402/.473 with 21 steals and 179 hits in 123 games (leading the Big State League in BA and hits), then he hit .356 in 323 ABs for Poza Rica of the Veracruz Winter League following the regular season. He reached Triple-A for the first time in 1958, hitting .231 in 13 at-bats for the Columbus Jets; he spent most of the year with the Single-A Lincoln Chiefs, hitting .300 with 25 home runs, 87 RBI and 19 stolen bases in 133 games. He split 1959 between three clubs, hitting .298 in 265 ABs and in 1960, he shifted to the Mexican League after being taken by the Diablos Rojos del Mexico in the 1960 Rule V Draft, hitting .346/.396/.529 with 12 home runs, 87 RBI and 105 runs scored in 136 games. His average slipped to .283 in 1961, then he hit .312/.365/.546 with 19 home runs and 81 RBI in 142 games for the Salt Lake City Bees in 1962. After a couple down years in 1963 and 1964, his career was over.

Overall, he hit .323 with at least 114 home runs and 597 RBI at all stops over 10 seasons.
