Biographical Information[edit]

Anthony Varvaro fell in the 2005 amateur draft from a projected 2nd or 3rd round to the 12th round due to Tommy John surgery in May. Picked by the Seattle Mariners, he was signed by scout David May for $500,000 and made his pro debut the next summer.

After baseball, he became a police officer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He died in a car crash on his way to attending a ceremony commemorating the terrorist attacks of September 11th, where he was to provide security.
