Biographical Information

Anthony Simone was a stand out athlete in his youth at Syracuse's North High School making All-City in both baseball and basketball, as well as playing basketball and football at the semipro level. After serving as a platoon sargent in the Korean War, Simone returned home and went to college.

Simone began his long association with the Syracuse Chiefs in 1961 when he joined the grounds crew at MacArthur Stadium. From 1961 to 1968 he clmibed the ladder serving as trainer, traveling secretary, business manager, public realtions director and operations manager. Before the 1968 season he turned down the chance to work in Detroit Tigers front office in order to stay with the Chiefs. In 1969 he was named assistant general manager and finally general manager in 1970. He would hold the position of GM until 1996. During this time he would win four International League Executive of the Year awards. He added the title of Executive Vice President before the 1979 season. After 1996 season Simone became the Chief Operating Officer of the team handing the GM duties off to his son, John. When the Chiefs opened their new ballpark that year, P&C Stadium, the street was named "Tex Simone Drive".

In 1998 Simone became Vice President of the International League. During his time with the league he has been involved in numerous committees, including finance and 125th anniversary. Simone has won a number of awards for his work in the local community.

In 1991 Simone was named to the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame. The Syracuse Baseball Wall of Fame honored him in 2001. In 2008 Simone was elected to the International League Hall of Fame.
