Biographical Information[edit]

The son of Rick Renteria, outfielder Anthony Renteria turned pro in 2012.

He was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 32nd round of the 2007 amateur draft. He hit .336 in college in 2011 and .331 with 12 home runs and a .630 slugging in 2012. He was chosen again by the Padres (for whom his father was coaching) in the 39th round of the 2012 amateur draft. He was the second CSU San Marcos player ever taken in the MLB draft. He made his pro debut on June 22nd with the AZL Padres, hitting 6th and playing right field. He went 0 for 5 with a RBI and 3 strikeouts in a 19-12 loss to the AZL Royals; Renteria was the only player on either side to play the full slugfest without getting a hit.
