Biographical Information[edit]
After high school Anthony Gomez attended Vincennes University where he was a member of the baseball team. Unfortunately, he injured his back and missed the entire season. Gomez then transferred to Ball State University with the intention giving up baseball and focusing upon his studies in actuarial science. He changed his mind about baseball and joined the baseball team as a walk-on. Gomez was redshirted as a sophomore and only pitched in one game as a junior before the coach dismissed him from the team.
Gomez then turned to coaching. He was a volunteer assistant coach at his former high school in 2013, 2014, and 2017. In the latter year he joined Morris Baseball where he worked as an independent instructor and coached travel ball teams, the Morris Chiefs from 2017-2019 and the Chicago Prairie Gravel in 2020. In August 2020 he moved to PRP Baseball as the Director of Player Development for Pitching where he stayed until early 2023. Gomez' bio at PRP states that "Gomez provides knowledge of the biomechanics of throwing, intertwining weight room work to benefit throwers, and understanding human movement to help our athletes become more efficient movers on the field."[1] The founder and director of PRP Baseball was Greg Vogt who became a rehab pitching coach for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2022.
Gomez followed Vogt to the Blue Jays and was named the bullpen coach for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2023 and Buffalo Bisons in 2024.
