Angel was 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the 1996 World Junior Championship, which Cuba won. He was 6-5 with two saves and a 3.96 ERA in 2007-2008. Through that season, his 13th, Peña had a career record of 85-69 with 13 saves and a 3.60 ERA. The right-hander fell to 6-4, 4.93 in 2008-2009 with a .318 batting average against.

Peña improved dramatically in 2009-2010, going 10-2 with a 2.14 ERA. He led the Cuban Serie Nacional in ERA (.08 ahead of Yulieski González) and was also among the leaders in wins (tied for 5th) and winning percentage (tied for 2nd with Ismel Jiménez, behind Luis Borroto).
