After defecting from Cuba, third baseman Andy Morales played two seasons of minor league baseball. He originally signed a four-year, $4.5 million contract with the New York Yankees in early 2001 but was let go by the club later that summer after the club discovered that he was allegedly three years older than what Morales originally told them. He played in the Boston Red Sox chain the next summer.
