Biographical Information[edit]

Andy Berglund has played and coached in several countries.

After graduating college in the USA, Berglund decided to go play in Europe. He went 4 for 17 with 2 doubles, four runs, a walk and a hit-by-pitch for the 2001 Windsor club in Britain. In '04, he went 1 for 4 with a double and two runs for Britain's Bracknell Blazers. In 2006, he played an injury plagued half season for the Alby Stars of Sweden, hitting .191/.406/.191 and playing every position except for right field and pitcher. In 2008, he batted .385/.578/.491 as a 1B-2B for Stockholm BSK, also coaching them to the Swedish Elitserien title. It was his final year as a player.

Berglund became head coach of the Eagles Praha for 2011 and guided them to the Czech Extraliga semifinals before losing to powerhouse Draci Brno. He led the Eagles in 2012 one step further to the Czech finals, finishing as runner-up to the seventeen-time Czech Champions Draci Brno. In 2011, he was named the head coach of the Czech Republic junior and senior national teams, where he guided the Czech Junior national team to a silver medal in Gijon, Spain in the European Junior Championship. It was the Czech Republic's highest finish ever and Berglund was recognized as a EBCA Coach of the Year finalist.

He was named head coach of the Czech Republic national team for 2012; in his first major tournament with them, the 2012 European Championship, he guided them to an upset of the Dutch national team, ranked fifth in the world at the time. He was again the head coach of the Czech Republic in the 2012 World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Regensburg, Germany, but the team lost both of its games. He coached for the French national team in the 2014 European Championship and for the South African national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He scouted Yannic Walther for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Berglund has been working for Major League Baseball for the past 10 years as an Envoy Coach and Academies Consultant.
