Andrew Urena saved 15 games for Mercer University in 2006, tying him for fourth in NCAA Division I. He was 4-2 with a 1.30 ERA and was named All-Atlantic Sun Conference. The Chicago White Sox took him in the 11th round of the 2006 amateur draft. He lasted just one season in the minors, going 5-6 with two saves and a 5.01 ERA for the Great Falls White Sox. He allowed a .307 average but struck out over a batter per inning.
Urena was a late addition to the Puerto Rican national team for the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games. He opened that tournament with a 7-inning shutout win over the Guatemalan national team.
