Andrew Johnson was the 17th President of the United States. He had been the 16th Vice President and took office as the President upon the assassination of Abraham Lincoln in 1865.
Johnson, who never ran for President, had been Governor of Tennessee, a member of both the House of Representatives and the Senate as well as Military Governor of Tennessee before becoming Vice President. In 1875 he again became a Senator.
Johnson attended a baseball game between teams from two different states and gave staff of the White House time off to see it with him.
