Biographical Information[edit]
Andres Santana was in six games with the San Francisco Giants at age 22 in 1990, under manager Roger Craig. He was in four games as a pinch-runner and three as a shortstop, playing a total of nine innings without making an error. With the bat, he had two plate appearances, not getting a hit but driving in one run.
He also played six years in the minors, most notably hitting .316 with 45 stolen bases for the 1991 Phoenix Firebirds. It was during that year when he hit the only home run that he slugged in the majors or the minors. Also, in 1988, he stole 91 bases in a year split between two teams, but mostly with the A level Clinton Giants.
In 1994 he played in the Chinese Professional Baseball League, hitting .306 in 18 games.
Andres was born in San Pedro de Macoris in the same year that Sammy Sosa was born there.
