Biographical Information[edit]

Anatoliy Korolov was 1-2 with a 5.92 ERA as the workhorse of the Ukrainian staff in the 2001 European Championship. Like some other Ukrainian stars of the early 2000s, he spent time in the Czech Extraliga. In 2003, he was 9-2 with a save and a 2.30 ERA for Tegola Praha. He tied Richard Prokop and Jakub Vančura for the most complete games (6), led in wins (two over Vančura and Petr Minařík), led in innings (82, two more than Vančura), tied for second in Ks (77, one behind Radek Procházka) and was 10th in ERA. He was 4-3 with a save and a 3.70 ERA ERA for Tegola in 2004, finishing 7th in the league in whiffs.

He was 0-1 with a save and a 4.38 ERA in the 2005 European Championship. He lost a complete game duel to Greece's Jim Kavourias, 3-2. He saved Evgen Tkachenko's 3-2 win over Great Britain, with no walks or hits in three shutout innings.

In the 2007 European Championship, the right-hander held the Spanish national team to 3 runs in 7 innings in a no-decision, outdueling opposing starter and former minor leaguer Miguel Rizo. Spain rallied against the Ukrainian bullpen to win. In the 2008 European Championship Qualifiers, Anatoliy shut out the Hungarian national team but allowed 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning versus the Romanian national team, leading to a quick yank in favor of Oleksandr Trofimenko.
