The first home of the Washington Senators, American League Park was located at 14th Street and Bladensburg Avenue NE. The park's first game on April 29, 1901, drew a crowd of approximately 10,000, including Spanish American War hero Admiral Dewey. During the 1902 season, E. Laurance Phillips began announcing the game's lineups here by megaphone, becoming baseball's first public address announcer. Later that same season, ticket prices were raised, and attendance was nearly cut in half. American League Park's stands were transferred to Seventh and Florida for the 1904 season and became American League Park II.
