Biographical Information

The father of Barry Foote and grandfather of minor leaguer Derek Foote, pitcher Amby Foote played six seasons of minor league ball.

He started out in 1948 with the Smithfield-Selma Leafs, going 9-9 with a 5.06 ERA. In 1949, he was 18-12 with a 3.24 ERA for the same club. He was third in the Tobacco State League in wins behind Clarence Condit and Hoyt Clegg while making the top 10 in ERA. He fell to 4-6, 6.22 for the 1950 Burlington Bees, walking 70 in 94 innings. He was back with the Bees for part of 1951 and also pitched for the Greenville Robins and Rocky Mount Leafs (a combined 3-4, 5.77). After sitting out 1952, he went 2-3 for the 1953 St. Jean Canadians. He was 4-2 for the 1954 Waycross Bears and also appeared for two Carolina League teams that year, his last in pro ball.

As of 2011, he was still an assistant coach at Smithfield-Selma High School in North Carolina, even though he was well into his 80s.
