Alonzo Slote
Alonzo Slote
- Born September 13, 1830 in New York, NY USA
- Died July 29, 1901 in Lake George, NY USA
Biographical Information[edit]
Alonzo Slote was a member of the Knickerbocker Base Ball Club of New York as early as 1862 and as late as 1868. He served as the club's vice president for some time. Like many baseball players in the pre-MLB era, Slote was a firefighter and spent eleven years in that profession. He started in 1851 with the Oceana Hose Company 36 which Alexander Cartwright was a member of at one point.
There is a player named Alonzo Slote Tredwell who plays in the Houston Astros farm system in 2024 so it is very likely that the two are relatives, especially given that Alonzo Slote's "Find A Grave" page says that he was "of the firm of Tredwell & Slote."
