Biographical Information[edit]

Alfredo Rodríguez debuted in the Cuban Serie Nacional in 2014-2015, hitting .265/.301/.284 with only four extra-base hits (3 2B, 1 3B) in 84 games, but fielded .970 and stole 12 bases in 16 tries for Isla de la Juventud as they made their first Cuban finals ever. Alfredo tied teammate Dainier Gálvez for the most sacrifice hits (22) in the league and was third in steals (behind Yurisbel Gracial and Randy Arrozarena). He led the league with 338 assists (19 ahead of Yorbis Borroto), was third in double plays (behind infield mates Luis Rivera and Gálvez) and tied for 4th with 15 errors. He was named the Serie Nacional Rookie of the Year.

He then defected from Cuba and in January of 2016, was reported to have signed with the Reds for a $6 million deal. However, the deal was not completed as the Reds wanted to avoid a major financial penalty if they had completed the signing before the international signing deadline. Instead, they waited until July 4th, shelling out $7 million to complete the deal. It was the highest signing bonus paid during that year's signing period.
