Biographical Information[edit]

Alfredo Arcaño debuted with the Habana team in 1888. He hit .272 that year. In 1889 was only one of two players in the league to hit a home run. However, he only hit .206 that year. He improved a lot the next year, hitting .307 in 1890. He did not play in 1891, but came back strong in 1892, with a .361 batting average. He finished with the second highest batting average that year. In the winter league, he hit .357. In the 1894 winter league, he was stronger than ever, batting a carrer high of .430. Arcaño didn't play in 1895 or 1896 due to the war, and things only went downhill from there for him. He wasn't quite himself anymore following it, and hit a sad .188 in 1897. Though he hit .375 in 1899, it was inflated because he only played in four games. He didn't do terrible but not great after this, and remained in the league until 1909 at age 41.
