Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Alex Phillips began his professional career in 2012.

He was taken by the Detroit Tigers in the 21st round of the 2012 amateur draft. The scout was Harold Zonder. With the Connecticut Tigers that year, he was 1-0 with a 2.51 ERA in 18 relief appearances. He spent most of 2013 with the Tigers, going 4-4 with a 3.56 ERA in 16 games (14 starts). He also pitched a single game with the West Michigan Whitecaps and surrendered four earned runs in only two innings, thus bringing his overall ERA to 3.90. He was released by Detroit in September. He latched on with the independent Traverse City Beach Bums of the Frontier League for 2014 and went 4-9 with a 4.85 ERA in 15 starts.
