Biographical Information

Outfielder Alex Metzler played six seasons in the big leagues, mostly with the Chicago White Sox, and hit over .300 twice.

Metzler began his pro career in 1924 and spent part of 1925 with the Chicago Cubs and a portion of 1926 with the Philadelphia Athletics. He joined the Chicago White Sox in 1927 and hit .319 as one of the team's regular outfielders. He was the Opening Day centerfielder and #3 hitter for the Sox in 1918 and had an OBP of .410 along with 14 triples that year. He began the next season as Chicago's leadoff hitter.

After a slow start to the 1930 campaign, Metzler's contract was purchased by the St. Louis Browns. After that season, he returned to the minors and hit over .300 in each of three years with the Milwaukee Brewers of the American Association. He continued to play minor league ball through 1935.
