Biographical Information[edit]
Alberto Vargas was a catcher for the Mexican national team in the 1990s.
Vargas played for Mexico in the 1991 Pan American Games. In the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, he hit .250/.290/.393 with 3 runs and 4 RBI in nine games as Mexico's only catcher used; he fielded .944 with 5 passed balls and threw out 5 of 18 attempted base-stealers. He helped Mexico win a Silver at the 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games, their best finish in 39 years in the event. He was again with Mexico for the 1995 Pan American Games. Starting for Mexico in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup, he was 1 for 13 with more errors (2) than hits; he had a passed ball and allowed 3 steals in 3 tries.
He had a brief pro career with the Mexico City Tigers, going 5 for 25 with 3 walks in 1996.
