Biographical Information[edit]
"We are going after young players . . ." - manager Joe Tinker, announcing the signing of Al Wickland for the new Chicago team in the Federal League
Al Wickland played five seasons in the majors. His ability to draw walks, along with a decent batting average and some power, allowed him to be consistently above average as a hitter.
He led the 1914 Federal League in walks. He was also fifth in slugging in the 1918 National League.
After his major league days he played several years at Toledo, once coming close to winning the batting title.
