Biographical Information[edit]
Al Shaw played outfield in the National League and in the Federal League. He was a decent enough hitter in the National League, although some of his value was in his ability to draw walks, which may not have been much appreciated at the time. He played center field for the St. Louis Cardinals, and his fielding percentages were below the norm.
His performance in the Federal League was much more notable, especially in 1914 when he was among the league leaders in batting average and slugging percentage while with the Brooklyn Tip-Tops. He was 33 at the time, and when he was 34 in 1915, his home runs and RBI were in the top ten in the league.
He is not to be confused with another Al Shaw, who played in the majors at the same time.
