Biographical Information

Al Platte came to the majors in September with the 1913 Tigers, at a time when the outfield was composed of Ty Cobb, Sam Crawford and Bobby Veach. Platte played nine games for the team, mostly playing in left field, Veach's position.

Veach, who was in his first full major league season at the time, would go on to hold a position in the outfield with the Tigers for ten more seasons.

Platte, for his part, had a long minor league career stretching from 1910-26. He also played service ball - Spalding's Baseball Guide for 1919 indicates that Platte had played for the team of the 85th Division of Battle Creek, perhaps the strongest team in the service. Platte led the International League in 1915 in hits (190), runs (128) and walks (96) to help the Providence Grays to the title. He also had 23 triples, a .318 average and 31 steals.

Al was with Peoria from 1921-26.

In his 15 seasons in the minors he hit .313.
