Biographical Information[edit]
Brother of Frank Lary, Al Lary came to the majors in the same month (September 1954) as his brother Frank. However, while Frank had a long career in the majors, Al did not make it back to the majors after 1954 until 1962. Both of the Lary brothers had impressive debuts, however.
In addition to his time in the majors, Al also played 12 seasons in the minors.
Lary had one career major league decision, a loss. It was on April 28, 1962 for the Chicago Cubs against the San Francisco Giants. He started the game, going 2 innings and giving up 4 hits, 6 earned runs, walking 3 and striking out 1. The Cubs lost the game, 11-2.
Al was a great college player, and was named to the University of Alabama's All-Century Team in both baseball and football.
