Affie Wilson
Frank Alf Wilson
Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Affie Wilson played in the minor leagues from 1905 to 1914. Though he hit .264 for his career, he managed a .300 average twice. In 1908, he batted .322 in 93 games for the Springfield Midgets and in 1910, he hit .340 in 259 at-bats for the Abilene Reds.
In 1909, he managed the Abilene Red Sox, replacing F.D. Parent partway through the season. He led the Abilene Reds to a third place finish in 1910. He began as the manager of the Great Bend Millers in 1911, but was replaced by William Luhrsen partway through the year. He then replaced Howard Price as manager of the Independence Packers that year. In 1912, he led Great Bend to a first place finish. He also managed the Columbus Discoverers for the latter part of the 1912 campaign, replacing Jack Palmer. He returned to manage Great Bend in 1913 (sources differ as to whether Luhrsen replaced him partway through the campaign). He skippered the club for all of 1914, leading them to a last-place finish.
